A note before the next reading

I read the kitchen-table essay standing up, because sitting makes it sound like a eulogy. It is not one.

If you are coming to a talk, you do not need to have read the book. The twenty minutes are built for a room that has not. The signing after is for the people who have, and for the people who decide they will.
